Tulips, Daffodils & a Row Boat

Yellow Tulip 2024

This year only one yellow tulip bloomed. The daffodils are 2nd year in a row not flowering. They have been fed. Are in a good location. And, planted fairly recently. From the same package of bulbs, the daffodils out back are also not flowering. I read online they are called blind daffodils. My take is to replant them in a different location for spring 2025.

Otter Creek

Along Otter Creek near the falls, in the spring the water can go right up above the parking lot at the boat launch. In the photo, the grass is the bank between the driveway and the creek right beside the boat launch access. The bank is about, from water's normal edge, 3 feet high (give or take). If you park parallel to the bank, then it can feel like you are in a boat.

Reminds me of a boat joke* that I'm not sure is correct to tell given that woke atmosphere nowadays. Anyway, I was a blond when it was told to me. I was not offended. It is a cute joke. Tell me what you think:

A woman photographer is on a back country road in July when the corn is knee high. She sees strange movement out in the middle of a huge cornfield. So she pulls into the tractor turn off area. She gets out and looks.
There is a woman in a row boat, rowing like there's no tomorrow! The photographer yells over to the woman.
"Hey you! It's women like you that give blonds a bad name. And if I could swim, I'd come out there and kick your butt!"

I think you can substitute a man or any group, and it would still be funny.

Photo of the Week

Otter Creek Park

Look at those classy shades of green. Mesmerizing, they are to this artist (that doesn't like to paint big green landscapes). The wavey reflections soften the scene. The light is just right in the photograph.

The trees are on the northeastern side of the park where you can drive down to. On the other side of the creek, at the boat launch area, there are picnic tables as well as a hiking path.

Have a good last week of June 2023. Clean out the coolers. Dust off the straw hats. Select your picnic dining utensils and insulated water glass.

PS...1:11 PM EDT there is a thunderstorm and downpour over Vergennes.

For the Weekend

Along Otter Creek

The boats are gone. Most likely rowed beautifully to the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum  where the creek meets open lake waters.

Visiting the falls park in Vergennes is a treat year round, but especially in the summer when folks picnic, fish, go boating, walk dogs, walk the path, and just take in lovely nature and community.

For artists, there is docking for boats that visit each summer, sail and motor boats, wonderful painting and photography subjects. Whenever possible, ask the boater for permission to paint or photograph.

Boat people as they are called locally, are very welcome here.

 Have a scrumptious weekend!

Pick your own strawberries
Make strawberry sorbet
Read about strawberry history
Bake a strawberry & custard pie
Mash strawberries, add teaspoon sugar, in a glass, give the mash a decent splash of quality gin
Say hi to Tanqueray or try a locally distilled gin
Enjoy!

Hello June!

Vermont has been blessed with some perfect days this May.

June arrives with heat as the forecast reads today, Hot, as in the 90s°F (32°C).

Sitting in the shade by Otter Creek is cool and relaxing. I didn't stay long because it was time to go.

When there are people around, being outdoors feels safer to me.  We should always be aware of our surroundings no matter how many folks are around. A long walk on a deserted beach may sound lovely, but not quite safe.

That day I was alone after another visitor left. Then another arrives. Despite a near empty parking lot,  in a space marked for trucks with trailors, (boat ramp area), the visitor parks right next to me. Not a cool thing to do. I left, taking my better safe than sorry attitude with me.

This summer I pray for the end to the violence in our communities.

When out and about, please don't be alone in lonely places. Always tell others  where you are going, and when you will return. Read up on hot weather safety. Be prepared for the unusual from stubbing your toe to worse.

Never
Leave Children or pets
in a hot car...double check before you walk away!

Have a Safe Summer!
